Artists
of all media Outside of the school environment, many artists find it difficult to get feedback they can use to further their art. Criticism is a necessary component to learning, and as it is unhealthy and biased to be the only critic for yourself- you need to solicit opinions from people you trust. I personally feel awkward doing this in my daily life, and feel more comfortable giving criticism to others in a designated arena. Critiques are also a great way to generate ideas. Or to draw inspiration from others work, thoughts, attitude, and the conversations that come out of this setting. After meetings, classes, movies, etc we are more engaged, momentum is gathered in reaction to each other and we are more productive for it. A Medium: an art critique group at Million Fishes. A springboard to connect artists and critics who can provide valuable input for each other. An ongoing event where a group of self motivated artists can augment their intellect with that of their peers. After a few sessions we will become scholars of each members work, applying that knowledge at following critiques. Each session will be moderated, to maintain time, and group interest. Presenters may come early to set up. The moderator will record any points raised in the critique and a description of the work. This information as well as artist statements, images, email addresses, upcoming events, reviews, and résumés will be posted on this site. The format requires physical evidence, recorded sound/ video, photographs, PowerPoint, art objects, costumes, samples of the performance, etc. All time-based media should require no more than fifteen minutes of the allotted presentation time
When: We will meet every other Tuesday evening at 7:30 pm. Exhibiting artists may arrive earlier to set up. Initial presentations will include a brief summary of past work. Maximum 6 presenters per evening. Tea/coffee/water provided |
